INFORMATIon about our association

About us

Who we are?

The residents association “Belangenvereniging Binnenstad Noord” (BBN) is the interest group of people living in and/or working in the northern part of the inner city of Delft (see map to the right). The association has over 380 members. Our main concern is to maintain and improve the quality of the urban environment for people living and working in our area.

We regularly consult with the municipality on matters in the implementation of municipal policies that directly affect residents. These include parking policy, traffic and accessibility rules, policy with regard to bars and restaurants (noise, live music, terraces), and events, risk of flooding, rising damp, land use rules and environmental and planning permits.
We also try to influence and improve the municipality’s policy in advance, by participating in consultations and attending network meetings. And by bringing issues to the attention of the municipality. In doing so, we also make use of our formal (legal) participation opportunities.

As an association we also strive for good mutual contacts between the residents. Because a good living environment is primarily determined by your relation with the people around you.

General assembly

Once a year, the association holds a general membership meeting, with the aim of:

  • monitor the board and evaluate the past year, see below the annual report for the past year
  • determine spearheads for the coming year, including budget, see below the activity plan for this year;
  • decide on mandate to the board for substantive matters;
  • electing board members, if appropriate.

When important decisions have to be taken, for example whether or not to appeal against a decision by the municipality, an extra members’ meeting is called.

Board

The board is elected by the members at the general assembly. The board is ultimately responsible for implementing decisions of the general assembly and decisions of the board itself.

The board, together with any working groups (see opposite), ensures the timely establishment of positions and strategy. For this, consultations are held with residents, the municipality, other interest groups and other relevant bodies.

The board is accountable to the members for decisions taken and for operating in its areas of operation.

How we involve our members

BBN meetings & general assembly

Besides the basically annual general members’ meeting (general assembly), there are about four other meetings every year. These are currently held at the premises of the Geerweg Playground Association. During these meetings, current topics are discussed. Sometimes there is a guest speaker focusing on a specific topic.
All members and other interested parties are welcome at these meetings.

Neigbhourhood activities

The association organises an excursion once or twice a year. A neighbourhood drink is also organised about twice a year. Furthermore, a coffee morning is organised almost monthly (third Thursday of the month). We celebrate the beginning of the new year with a New Year’s meeting. The association contributes to the
Kinderspelen on King’s Day on the Raam and the Lantern parade in autumn.
